Erin was born and raised in Lowell, MA. She attended Adelphi University in Garden City, NY. There she earned her B. S. in Music while studying under Michael Hume and Pulitzer Prize winning composer Paul Moravec. She then moved into New York City to continued her conservatory studies in acting at The Circle in the Square Theatre School, working with Alan Langdon, Terese Hayden, Edward Berkeley, and Moni Yakim. Highlights of her time at Circle include performing as Helena in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and as Amalia in an original Bock and Harnick review on the theatre's historical stage on Broadway.
Upon completion of her formal studies, Erin began working with the Emerging Artists Theatre Company (EAT). With EAT, she portrayed two hysterical characters in the original plays "Freshly Killed Doves" by Jonathan Reuning and "Man on Dog" by Ry Herman. She once again harnessed her hysteria to portray an angst-ridden teenager in "Cry Wolf" in its American debut at the 13th Street Rep. |
Her experience in front of the camera includes work on small, independent shorts, music videos, and commercials that either aired exclusively in Spain or only showcased her legs and the side of her head.
Erin stumbled upon director/producer Joe Preston while working with Melba La Rose at NY Artists Unlimited. Erin acknowledges the role of serendipity in her being cast in this role, as Miss La Rose was the original Nola Noonan. |
FLIMING BEGINS!
|
 |
After many months of pre-production and planning, the first scene of "Glamour" commenced filming on July 9th, 2005, at 11am, at the historic St. Mark's Episcopal Church in the East Village of Manhattan. The original site of St. Mark's was formerly occupied by New York's first Governor, Peter Stuyvesant's family Chapel, and is the oldest in continuous use by Christian congregations in the city. St. Mark's is the second oldest church in the city, after St. Paul's, and houses the grave of Peter Stuyvesant. The building was completed in 1799. |
During the mid 1960's, the St. Mark's Poetry Project was established to explore aesthetic and social concerns in the changing New York scene. Jackie actually became part of the Poetry Project, and read his poetry there regularly.
Our first shoot was actually the last scene of the film and everything went off as planned! I am very proud to boast of that, but would never have been able to do it without the support of everyone involved in the project. The weather was beautiful, and Erin (Nola), looked ravishing in her pink dress and hat adorned by fabulous vintage jewelry from Roger Chin of New York. Donald and Dushka, our fabulous videographers, were key to the shoots' professionalism, and Ed Snyder, our screenwriter was right by my side, assisting me with all the details. And not to be upstaged, Jackie's energy was completely surrounding us as his biography "Superstar In A Housedress, The Life and Legend of Jackie Curtis" by Craig Highberger, currently sits on bookshelves and in windows of bookstores all over the city as well as the rest of the country. One of the bookstores, ironically named St. Mark's Bookshop, has been selling many copies of the book, and is only a block and a half away from where we were shooting. So Jackie is never too far away from overseeing his work performed!
We wrapped with 5 scenes down, consisting of two camera angles. Thanks to Erin's fabulous acting, and the filming of Donald and Dushka, we have great footage to work with come the days of editing.
I look forward to planning the next stage of rehearsals and the actual filming. More great surprises to come as we choose the locations and enhance the creativity of each scene! |
Additional Info |
It's only natural that Glamour has enjoyed a continued renewal of interest throughout the years. Glamour is the type of story that can associate itself with the present as well as the past. As the story goes, Nola Noonan is a stylish young girl from the wrong side of the tracks who has the intelligence and ruthless ambition to make something of herself in the world. She realizes her power over men, and uses sex to advance herself. Nola starts out in show business as a stripper, but her goal is to "make her way to Hollywood, while there still is a Hollywood". To reach her goal, she has to dump lover after lover as she makes he way "up the ladder of success, wrong by wrong".
The start of this project came about in a very serendipitous way. One day, in a flurry of posting items on Ebay for sale, Joe thought it might be interesting to promote Jackie's name and the doc, "Superstar," by posting one of Jackie's promotional shopping bags that Jackie had printed up a few years before he died. There were about 20 left in storage at the time, and although the Ebay ad had alot of viewers, there was only one bid that bought the bag at $9.99. That bidder's name is Tom Zachacz, who by interest in the Warhol world, had coincidentally attended the 2003 revival at La Mama.
Tom loved the show very much, and it left him extatic with joy. It had separated him from some current unfortunate circumstances in his life and inspired him to invite me to dinner out of pure thankfulness. Tom and Joe shared a wonderful evening together. As the conversation progressed, it was Tom who so generously offered the seed capital needed to start the project. It is with great pride that Joe will be forever thankful to Tom for his admirable human qualities.
When a project like this starts to take shape, it means that there are deep seeded roots that have been nourishing the idea for quite some time. Those roots were in Craig Highberger, by which having started the doc "Superstar", Joe was able to unearth 18 years of embedded sorrow for the loss of Jackie. Knowing that one day something would happen, Joe got a call from Craig that started ball rolling. It had since inspired Joe to revive the play and produce Glamour for film. Joe was appointed associate producer of Superstar, and will fovever be greateful to Craig Highberger for all he has unselfishly done for Jackie and his memory.
Casting is now under way, with six parts out of twenty-one having already been casted. Publicity photographs, marketing strategies, and press kits are currently being worked on. The film will be shot in DV format. Locations are currently being scouted as well. The production schedule will run over the course of 2005, and will be ready for post-production late in the year.
